Artist’s Statement
Curtis Jenney was raised in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut, where he still resides. From a young age, Curtis developed a keen appreciation for his natural surroundings. His spirit has always been most drawn to the soothing powers of flowing water. His work attempts to capture the significance and grace of water's presence as it moves across the land. As water cascades over his leaf impressions, a natural cycle is brilliantly represented. Dancing sunlight playing off rippling pools and falling water's unique sounds produces a sense of peace for the viewer. He hopes to bring you his experience of joy and tranquility through his work.
Curtis's hand forms his "leaf fossils" in granite dust, silica, glass fibers, and curatives. As a result, they are not as fragile as high fire clay. As in nature, each leaf varies in its contour and texture. The leaves are signed and dated. They are set on individual pedestals, of which there are three different heights. This allows the waterfall to be arranged in any configuration.
We keep our process as environmentally friendly as possible by using all-natural products, recycling water, and using recycled carpet as padding for the pieces.
